One of the great joys of this project has been learning about Lowell Mason's, and the Mason family's, importance in American music throughout the 19th Century. Without Lowell we would not have classical music in this country as we know it. He was instrumental in bringing European classical music to this country, as were other musically inclined descendants. The Mason & Hamlin piano company (founded by Lowell's son) produced extraordinary piano's until the 1930's, when the Mason family sold the business. Caleb's piano is the last one the Mason family produced.
